Galvanized

into the milieu of the pretzel room
with a stubborn DIY ethos,
I’m only interested in
‘possibles’ and ‘becomings’

this relationship is harder won,
wrestling with an inherent, libidinal presence,
the tentative, phantom-catching nature
of poetic exploration without villain.

I protect this interior space
while revealing it through torque,
the slope of a declined gaze,
in contrast to self-portraits.

laden with enhanced chromatic intensity,
and time-specific autobiographical detail,
I long abandoned ‘easel’ poetry,
inviting the reader into my subjective environment.

my new strategies of refusal and tension,
along with more spontaneous preparatory techniques
have shifted gesture and form on the page/screen
to conjure presence, in and by the poem itself.

Instagram landmarks that fit a lifetime
of aspirations and daydreams,
instead I will super glue the wound on my thumb
and hitch into the idiosyncratic wilderness of life's snacks.
