Marquee Moon on Repeat

When I first moved to New York,
I went to CBGB during the day,
and just hung out, wrote, took photos,
inhaled the history.

The door was always open
and no one was ever there;
just me and the famous stage,
just me and the famous toilet.

Besides Bob Dylan,
my soundtrack back then
was Lou Reed,
and Television's Marquee Moon.

I'd imagine what it was like
being in the crowd
when The Ramones tore in
and whipped jowls from howling.

With Tom Verlaine's passing,
a small part of my 20s has died,
but I will always have listening
to Marquee Moon on repeat.

I will always have
that kitchen on 88th street,
and that iPod on the shelf,
when the future was in front of me.
