the anatomy of a candle holder

Capital: This is the cup-shaped component at the top of the candlestick/candelabrum which holds the candle in place.

why don't they make Shabbat
candle holders with deeper taper capitals?

this is what I am thinking about
while swaying to and fro,
listening to the Kiddush,
and hearing all about Jane's pancreas,
esophagus, and epidermis
at the Seder table.

the candles are crooked, leaning
and it is annoying me.

the capital cup should be deeper,
allowing the candle to sit
with flickering confidence.

like umbrellas,
candle technology has not
been updated in hundreds of years.

later, as the children search
for the afikoman,
I am reminded
all human religions are the same
and the leaning candles don't matter.

and nachat (pleasure)
comes not from not,
but from the act of
simply seeking.
