a poem about doing your best to carry on in spite of oft-grim prospects

When a gorgeous girl
with a blue spotted bandana
hanging out of her back left pocket
moves into the apartment next to yours,
what do you do?

Nothing!

When work is uninspiring,
but totally fits your life
and allows you to write
your own stuff,
what do you think?

Nothing!

When 4th grade is coming to an end
and you see your life
flash before your eyes
on a horizon that will end one day,
what do you do?

Everything!

When the love of your life
is long gone,
and short of a time machine,
there is nothing you can do,
what do you do?

Nothing (because it will disrupt the space/time continuum)!

When you wake up every morning
at 5am to work out,
even though you hate working out,
because it truly sucks,
what do you do?

50 more sit-ups!

When you have a cool podcast
that doesn't pay the bills,
but it let's you hang
with your favorite musicians and comedians,
what do you do?

Nothing!

When life is good,
but not great,
and you get to write for a living,
with a pretty decent work-life balance,
what do you do?

Whatever it takes to keep it going (for now)!
