Magic City Hipster Nights

Wynwood is no longer hipster paradise.

Defining what, exactly, constitutes a “hipster” can be tough,
especially since that blend of retro-cool and ironically chic
has morphed into part of mainstream culture.

Miami is perfect for the modern nonconformist on the surface.

The city’s shed its reputation as a town of bottle service and strip clubs—
though that’s all still there—and reinvented itself as a hub for contemporary
design and art (hello, Art Basel), forward-thinking food and cocktail culture.

But there is always the inescapable curse of electronic music.

I used to dance to Devendra Banhart in my kitchen on East 88th Street in NYC
and now I get to dance with him again (second time) at the beautiful
North Beach Bandshell in Miami.

...and sweat with bombshell brunettes.

Designated driving through the ghetto—
this is the Miami I find poetic and unpretentious—
so I roll the windows down to scare my drunk [white] friends.

Just as excited as I am to visit this vacation place, I am thrilled to leave.
