The Hipster Generation, children of the 90s
Growing up in a world of change and strife
We've seen the world shift and transform
Our lives a testament to adaptation and reform
We are the latchkey kids,
Witnessing the death of MTV
The early days of the Internet,
the emergence of grunge, hip hop, and 9/11
We are the ones who learned to stand on our own
Our parents busy with their careers and phones
We value independence and self-reliance
And know the value of hard work and perseverance
We are the ones who bridge the gap
Between the Gen X and the millennials' rap
We understand the value of tradition
But also the need for change and innovation
We've seen the world go through ups and downs
But always know how to pick ourselves up from the ground
We may not shout our stories from the mountaintops
But our experiences run deep and our voices won't stop
The Hipster Generation of quiet strength,
Our stories and lessons, we will continue to lengthen
We may not always make the headlines
But we'll keep moving forward, one folk song at a time.
