and Sparks on a sunny Wednesday,
I am rocking out while writing/working,
building confidence and hoping to keep it.
The only clinker is that life comes at you
like a Vonnegut quote from an old friend
over lunch in the West Village,
while a beautiful woman hovers in the background.
When you're all alone or when you're out in the world,
on the A train or in a swamp,
you must strong-arm your own confidence
for heart and head.
Because the world won't give it to you,
only take it from you
on any afternoon
whether in the backend of a website or the back of a cop car.
I am still figuring it out,
and I am turning 40 this year,
so I wish someone would've prepped me
for this still trying thing.
