A Course in Miracles

If you want a course in miracles,
drop a tiny loop from a knotted necklace
on the floor.

When you look down,
somehow it is in the other room,
literally dining with the dishes.

The timing of it, too,
proves to be something special:
right when you are about finished.

That’s when the last thing, the last ring
falls and somehow – against tiny physics –
flies away, bouncing into a mystery of searching misery.

As if on queue, Geoff with a G
comes downstairs, sees you on all fours,
combing through the carpet and attempts to help.

But all he does is make it worse,
makes you feel crazy, like
how in the Sam hell is this possible.

And then Geoff with a G asks
a stupid questions, like
“are you sure?”

Of course, I am fucking sure,
goddamn it, and I was already done
and this is no fun so why else?!?

Suddenly, without climax or build up,
you find what you are longing for,
the little loop in a place you’ve looked ten times.

It has reappeared, materialized,
and that is a miracle unto itself,
thus the necklace is fixed and stored safely.

Yet the next morning,
when you go to wear it,
it is knotted again…the end.
