played guitar on stage
and told some rhythmically
timed jokes.
haven't done this in a while,
since the beginning of Coyote Blood,
when Vernon and I were the house band
at the Broadway Comedy Club
on 53rd and 8th, near Barcelona Bar,
which we would frequent back then.
it rained a lot that season,
and I wish I knew then what I know now,
that old cliche,
because I would be braver now
if I were at least trying to be brave
back then when it mattered to make me.
after words, I stole a cactus
only to give it to a box office attendee,
and maybe I will do this more often,
even busting out the harmonica
and buying a new tambourine,
because it is fun and none of it matters.
there is nothing better
than making people laugh
at something you wrote
while goofing around.
