I blast Stone Temple Pilots
into my ears and brain
before I take the stage.
so much so
that I am dizzy
by the quiet crowd;
welcome to the scene,
a neighborhood of why.
I proceed to read
my poems, dedicating one to you
and the beautiful black girl
who read before me
all about breakups and heartbreak.
Jen, I say, those people are silly,
because you are stunning
and super talented.
this is more of a lecture/storytelling thing
but poems are just arbitrary obituaries
for love, life and death.
this poem is for you,
and you know who you are.
