Golf Clap

She is a writer and a dancer
just like someone else
I used to know
and she is the first person
to ever say to me
"We're gonna figure this out."

It was a regal moment,
that deserved a soft, quick clap
that won't disrupt the eventual
kissing just before the rain
and the way up Le Plateau stairs
to the bed with it's cool sheets.

Maybe this is the best
I've ever had: content and unalarmed.
Or just something new,
putting new things into your life
like new shoes on an old street,
which must mean something, right?

It's good to still be foolish
and believe that life can change
at any given second, even on a rainy
Wednesday night without the right
kind of trying, just the Tao of Steve
and timing on her part, maybe,
and so I applaud and get to it.
