New Boot Goofin' Through Central Park at Midnight

alone at last.
in the dark center wilderness of the city.
I feel the breeze dip down.
towards me.
I hear coyotes.
calling to the moon from their Harlem world.
I can see the pines are the only trees dancin'.
and I see ghosts.
searching for missing buildings.
stippling in drawn stars.
lost stanzas aren't enough.
in this beautiful dark.
I climb atop a monolith
hearing the hum of this sleepy town.
all around me.
and I ignore it wild.
soft has never felt so hard.
a jogger jogs.
a hobo snores.
rats scurry to and fro.
hyphens are for the hyphenated.
the sounds our hearts echo.
take the world by storm.
a puddle, so I hop.
doldrums never end.
and time never stops.
