new blue cardigan
...a poet's life.
I like to edit in the kitchen
with the window open.
I hate editing,
but I like books better than bleeding,
or working behind a bar.
this is what Hashem and I discussed
yesterday
and the day before that
and the day before that
to save my soul.
I've been waiting for signs
since
the foul year two-thousand and nine,
but
maybe it already began.
I love Daniel Itzler's stories,
and his artwork.
I love my friends who inspire me,
like Bacon Rick,
that beautiful bastard from Jefferson Commons
a million years ago.
I still find his arrowheads
in the sand
and
in my black socks.
updated horses run from town to town,
and I am here,
in the future,
listening to old James Brown songs.
...with the window open,
my beard and my new blue cardigan
and my typing fingers
and my wayward heart
are the only things
keeping me warm.
